News: Georgetown advances in BET

Georgetown used a 26-2 start to the game to beat Villanova 62-57 in the quarter-finals of the Big East tournament. Up next is Notre Dame, which beat Syracuse 89-83.

Would have been interesting to find a 1st half vs. 2nd half box score, but looking at the final box (also, no HD Box score available, since play-by-play for the game isn't available):

Obviously, the 18-8 assists advantage (on 4 more FGs) is nice. I calculate a pace of 60, so Georgetown's Off. Eff. = 103.3, Nova's Off. Eff. = 95.0, similar to the last G'town v. Nova game (105.2 v. 99.8).

Georgetown had an eFG% of 49.1%, still below their season average. The team's offensive TO% was 15% (best performance since the Louisville game), OR% = 31.4% (well below the season average of 40.8) and FTM/FGA = 16.7% (also low).

On defense, G'town allowed eFG% = 42.2%, TO% = 13.3%, OR% = 22.9% (Nova had gone 46.9% & 36.6% the first two games), and the dreaded FT defense (FTA/FGM) = 39.2%.

Looking ahead at the Notre Dame game, I hope Mike has a nice preview, because I'm not planning on running through their season numbers.

The Hoyas won the first meeting between these teams, 66-48, in a game that wasn't that close. Don't expect a blowout tomorrow, as Georgetown shot eFG% = 68.2 (2nd best on the season), while NDU was at 34.6% (worst on the season) in that game. I'd be surprised if either team repeated that performance.

Here's an updated log5 table, through tonight's games (all the top seeds won):

Oh, and Nike's marketing department wants me to tell you that Georgetown was wearing their new sneakers tonight:

Only $150 (buy 2! buy 3!), coming to a Nike website store near you soon. You can post your comments about these kicks here. My wife is hoping they'll now send some nice free size 8 women's shoes our way; I'll keep my $30 running shoes (on closeout at Kohl's).
