  • The total game pace of 70 possessions was much closer to Notre Dame's liking (Adj. pace 69.8; 109/341) than Georgetown's (63.0, 309/341) coming into the game. Do note, however, that the 1st half was played at the Hoyas' pace, and its unclear how much influence garbage time had on the 2nd half numbers
  • I know I've been beating this tired drum all year, but it was the defense that was the difference in the game. Notre Dame's 1st half Off. Eff. (=77.3) was nearly 40 points below their season-average Adj. Off. Eff. (115.8) coming into the game. Georgetown held NDU well below their season averages in eFG%, OR% and FT Rate during the half.
  • If you've seen Jon Wallace's outside shot, please use the white courtesy phone to call Lost and Found. Mr. Wallace is now shooting 5-21 from 3FG in his last 4 games after shooting 13-16 in the 5 game previous to that. I believe that is what is generally known as regressing towards the mean.
  • Kudos to DaJuan Summers for gathering 11 rebounds in the game - a career-high, I believe. The full-game stats indicate another losing battle on the boards for the Hoyas, but the 1st half stats are much closer, similar to the DePaul game.

A few non-game comments:
  • This is the 100th post on this blog. Woo-hoo! I didn't really expect to still be doing this, but I still enjoy working through the numbers, and hope at least a few other Hoya (or just basketball) fans are reading them.
  • Having said that, you may have noticed lately that the posts here have been limited to game recaps. My real-life responsibilities have picked up quite a bit, and will likely only get busier as the season progresses. I plan to keep the stats and recaps going, but don't expect much in other analysis this season. Sorry, not many more nifty charts. I'll also post some video clips (see the "Multimedia Clips" sidebar on the right), but don't guarantee the full-blown highlight packages that I posted last year.
  • Meanwhile, the stats revolution is taking place on Hoyatalk. I'll point your attention to a few threads of interest:
    • Rebounding Missed 3-Point Shots - Saxifrage works through the play-by-play data from the Pitt game to determine if the Hoyas struggle with def. rebounds on 3FGs. There is also a follow-up thread for today's game, although I don't know if I agree entirely.
    • Fun with Ken Pomeroy - SFHoya99 (who probably should be writing this blog rather than me) compares the current Hoyas (pre-NDU) to the end-of-season Hoyas of last year.
  • And just a reminder/invitation that I'm always looking for help (e.g. HoyaJake's +/- stats) or even fellow bloggers to join and help fill the content void. It used to say that on the right, but the sidebar was getting kinda busy.
