Some quick observations:
- I had to go back and check some of these numbers before posting, just to make sure I didn't copy the box score incorrectly, or that I'd screwed up a calculation along the way.
- While 110 points is remarkable, a lot of college teams are able to put up 100+ points by pushing the tempo. For instance, Syracuse also had a laugher tonight, beating E. Tenn St. 125-75. The Orangemen used ~92 possessions to get those 125 points, for an Offensive Efficiency = 136, certainly impressive. However, the Hoyas managed to score 110 points on only 72 possessions (OEff = 153) and 58 points on 36 possessions in the 2nd half (OEff = 162), which is a much harder thing to do.
- This game represents the best offensive (OEff = 153) and defensive (DEff = 71) effort that Georgetown has had so far this season.
- Shooting >80% eFG (in the 2nd half) is fairly obscene (a quick reminder that eFG% is just [2FGM+3FGM*1.5]/FGA, to credit the extra value of a 3-pt shot). However, G'town actually shot a slightly higher percentage in the 2nd half against Jacksonville.
- The 8.4% TO rate in the 2nd half was the first time this season that Georgetown turned the ball over less than 10% of its possessions for a half.
- The impressive steal rate (20.9%) should be tempered by realizing that Radford had a 13.5% steal rate allowed this season, 321st out of 341 Div I teams, coming into the game. Like eFG%, the Hoyas had a similar performance against Jacksonville last Sunday. However, unlike last weekend's ragged affair (GU had 14 steals, Jacksonville 13), this time Georgetown only surrendered 1 steal and 8 total turnovers.
HoyaChris here - It will be interesting to see how far this will move us up in Pomeroy where we are currently 24th. We are already at 8 in Sagarin and it would appear that this blowout will push us up to 5 or 6.
ReplyDeleteSeventh, it turns out. As you posted on Hoyatalk, it's all about sample size these days.
ReplyDeleteThe rankings probably won't stabilize until mid-February, so there's still plenty of time for Georgetown to move up or down some more.
