Thank you both for reading

Well, I think this is it.

I just don't have the time I used to to work up the stats for the games, and the rest of the spine-tingling content that Alan and I once cobbled together isn't writing itself.

We haven't written a season preview in years and most game recaps consist of stats dumps.

I think Woody and Diane described it best:

I'll leave the website live for a while longer in case anyone wants to refer back to the stats from previous years. I may even try to update the links on the sidebar one last time.

I hope someone found this thing useful, and it wasn't a complete waste of time. Alan and I will still be around HoyaTalk and Casual Hoya, as time permits.

Thank you for your support.

  2. How difficult is it to create the stat dump? I'm asking if there is a way to automate it, and if so, if you have an excel sheet that does so that someone else could use.

  3. Actually, the game day stats dump is fully automated.

Unfortunately, the quality of the play-by-play going into the stats parser has always been the limitation. Running and posting a completely correct play-by-play takes five minutes, but I often have to spend considerable time correcting the play-by-play from the game replay, memory or best guess.

I always dreaded the games at Villanova, whose AD consistently posted the worst substitution data known to man. I'd have to hand-chart those games to have any chance of making sense of it.

The compiled stats pages were in various states of automation, so while some (BE snapshot) took just a couple of minutes, others (Player Adv. Stats) took considerably longer.

  5. Thanks, Brian, for everything you did, and letting me borrow your platform at times for some of my partially-informed spewing.

  8. As I watched the game last night, I was looking forward to reviewing your analysis, and here I am! Thanks for what you have done and shared with all of us. Brian, I look forward to seeing you again soon. When we meet again the beer is on me.

  9. I greatly appreciated the stats dumps. I know you don't owe anyone anything but I am really disappointed this site won't be continuing. Even if you didn't write a word, I wish they could continue, but I appreciate that you may not have the energy or see the point in correcting play-by-play data so the numbers have some value. I really hope someone can pick up the baton.

Thank you for the work you did here. I have come here after pretty much every game for the past few seasons.

  10. Any way you can github the code?

  11. What does github the code entail? I'd be happy to make it open source, just no idea how to do that.
