The general impression I took away from tonight was that Georgetown wasn't going to get many calls and the Blue Demons were going to make some tough shots. The Hoyas did themselves no favors on the free throw line, missing 8 of their first 12 attempts. But thanks to a strong defensive effort in the first half, the Hoyas were able to establish and maintain enough separation to tough out another conference road win.
Markel Starks "could not go" tonight, so Otto Porter had his first career start. While Starks is actually one of the biggest culprits on turnovers [TO Rate = 22%], he's also a primary ball handler against the press, and that's what DePaul threw at Georgetown all night. Sure enough, the Hoyas struggled with turnovers: only at Louisville and at West Virginia did the Hoyas turn it over more. Not clear to me what ails Starks but hopefully he returns soon.
Let's run the numbers:

More thought and stats after the jump
Obviously the star tonight was Jason Clark. Immediately after I pointed out his issues shooting from deep during conference play [4/22 3FG coming in], Jason decided to go wild from behind the arc, hitting 5 of 7 attempts, along with his normal array of slashing drives to the hoop.
Some of the other stat lines were a bit more interesting to me:
- Otto Porter gathered an impressive 14 defensive rebounds in the game, but just couldn't get it going on offense with only one field goal made on 5 attempts to go along with 5 turnovers.
- Henry Sims was frustrated most of the night with the officiating - he fouled out with 3 minutes left in the game - but still managed 16 points and 7 rebounds. As we often say these days, hard to believe that a stat line like that would feel ho-hum for Sims.
- Nate Lubick can look painfully awkward at times, what with the in-bound pass off his back tonight or the near broken ankle on Sunday, but he just keeps grinding and playing defense and actually came out as a net positive on the game thanks to his 6 assists and 3 offensive rebounds.
